2026–2027 School Year
Connors PTO Liaison (PTOL) Program
With our PTO Liaison program and WhatsApp groups, we aim to:
- Build a sense of community within each homeroom class
- Have a PTO communication portal for Connors school events, PTO news, etc.
- Enable communication of classroom needs, activities, updates, reminders
The Program
Program Management
- PTO Officer Colleen Herzog will manage the PTO Liaison program for the 2026-2027 school year.
- There will be a brief orientation for all PTO Liaisons in September to review the below expectations and to answer any questions.
The Role
What Is a PTO Liaison?
Similar to a “class parent,” each homeroom will have 1 volunteer parent selected to serve as a PTO Liaison for the school year. The PTO Liaison helps to support the teacher, homeroom, and families in a variety of ways outlined below. PTO Liaisons do not attend classroom activities or provide in-school support. Any in-classroom volunteer opportunities are organized by the teacher.
The Upside
PTO Liaison Perks
- Supporting your child’s teacher, homeroom families, and the Connors PTO
- Reserved front row seating at the following Connors events: Connors Rocks Holiday Show, grade-level theater showcases, K and 5th grade graduation ceremonies.
You will be asked to take photos / videos to share with the WhatsApp group.
- Early access to sign up for Bingo Night, if interested in attending
- Additional entry into the Field Day lottery, if interested in volunteering.
Responsibilities
Role of PTO Liaison
Community
- Stay “in the know” about school and PTO information by attending PTO meetings (or reviewing highlights/slides/minutes), reading the weekly Connors School Scoop, being a part of PTO communication channels, etc.)
We ask that at least 1 PTO Liaison from each grade level attend the monthly PTO Meeting (whether in person or virtually). Feel free to organize a rotating schedule with the other grade-level Liaisons.
- Organize a class meetup at the beginning of the school year and others as possible
- Liaise with the PTO Officers, grade-level PTOLs, and other PTO Liaisons
- Be an active part of the standalone PTO Liaison WhatsApp group (run by PTO Officer Colleen Herzog), by: 1) reading and acting on information shared and 2) sharing information with each other that would be helpful for all classes
WhatsApp Groups
Please review the Benefits, Appropriate Uses, and Prohibited Uses of the WhatsApp groups at ConnorsPTO.com/whatsapp.
- Serve as an admin for the homeroom WhatsApp group (created by the PTO). Verify your name is visible and that your member tag includes your child’s name and PTOL title.
PTO Officer Colleen Herzog will remain in all WhatsApp groups (also as an admin) to share general PTO announcements.
- Share relevant information, including proactive day-to-day reminders for class and school activities + content shared by the PTO in the PTOLs group chat, with your assigned homeroom WhatsApp group.
- Answer general questions within the group or point families in the right direction.
Refer to or suggest the “Who Do I Contact for Assistance” resource.Contact Colleen Herzog if support is needed for PTO-related topics.
- Ensure that all communications promote community building and adhere to the WhatsApp group guidelines.
Refer families to contact Principal Addi or VP Hamlin if any school questions, personal issues, or complaints arise.
- Encourage all families in your class to join the homeroom WhatsApp group and confirm that everyone in your group has an identifying name and/or member tag.
Teacher Appreciation
- Plan and organize teacher appreciation efforts and gifting for the December holidays and Teacher Appreciation Week (e.g., organizing group collection, purchasing gifts, reporting back to class).
For end-of-year gifts, the PTOL can decide to do a group gift collection or to have families gift as they wish depending on the PTOL’s bandwidth and the preferences of the families in the class.
- Celebrate teacher’s birthday, if applicable, perhaps with card, flowers, sweet treat and/or small gift.
Classroom Celebrations
- Coordinate with homeroom teacher and grade-level PTOLs to support holiday celebrations and special activities in the classrooms.
- Select, purchase, and prep crafts/activities for specific holidays (typically Halloween, Thanksgiving, Winter). The PTO will provide budget and guidelines in advance and will reimburse purchases.
